Some madman wants to make a deal with you. You get to drive their CLK GTR for 2 years and you can keep it if you make it.
Conditions:
You’re not responsible for maintenance, but if you damage the car in any way you pay for repairs, lose the challenge and the car. Doesn’t matter if the damage is slight (like a splitter damaged on a kerb) or vast. You won’t however be responsible for damage caused by others (like parking dings). If the car is written off but you’re not at fault you lose the car but don’t have to cough up the dough. The car’s insured for you, but you’re not allowed to have insurance on it in your name. Fuel’s on you.
You have to use the CLK GTR as your daily driver for the next 2 years. You’re not allowed to drive another car aside from when you really have to carry more than onepassenger or have a substantial amount of cargo to transport. You have to drive the CLK to work every day in sun, rain or snow, and you’re not allowed to put less than 6000 miles a year on it.
Would you go for it?

How would I daily drive it if I’m only allowed 6,000 miles per year? My yearly distance traveled is 16,800 miles on average?
This is dumb because the math just doesn’t work.

It’s no less than 6000 miles. You can do more if you need to.

You have to do at least 6000 miles a year in it. :]

Yes. I don’t need a car since I live in NYC, so I’d just go on one 6000 mile road trip per year.

You still have to put at least 6000 miles a year on the car.

I work from home, I could still easily put 6K/year in mileage on it. Challenge Accepted!

Why not? Worst that happens is I damage the car and don’t get to keep it, that still sounds like a win!
edit: just seeing I’m responsible for repairs. If I can keep damage to a damaged splitter I might be able to swing it...

I was with you until the splitter damage part. With Canadian roads and the potholes on said roads, no thank you.

Oh, I misread.
Still no though. In 2 years, cars get dings. If I’m required to have everything repaired at my own cost, and drive the car to the point where I hate it, absolutely this is a no.

No real punishmet for failure, and I would at least get to drive it for awhile? Hell yes I would. Who cares how stiff the ride is? Man up wuss.

The punishment for failure is paying for repairs. I think you underestimate how ridiculous those bills can get on a homologation special car that was produced in extremely limited numbers.

Guess I misread. So basically bankruptcy any time I hit a pothole.
no way I could do that on pennsylvania roads, too many hills I couldn’t drive it anywhere without it bottoming out.

Sold. I drive about 20 miles a day between work and home, almost entirely interstate. Based on where I live, I’m going opposite of most of the traffic both to and from work, so sitting in traffic won’t be a problem. I have two kids, but there’s the loophole that I can drive my wife’s car when taking them around. Based on the basic DD to work and back, that’s 4,900 miles right there. I’m sure I could find an excuse for the other 1,100 to meet the minimum. I live in the south, so no worry for snow. And I would think I could handle it in the rain not driving crazy or anything. Plus I’m young and don’t have a bad back (yet). Where do I sign up?

It’s doable where I live so yeah. You only having to pay for gas. 93 octane on a car that probably had the gas guzzler tax? ugh even though I wouldn’t have to pay maintenance, I’d cry a little every time at the pump.

YES YES YES. I’m only home 1 week out of every 4. When I’m traveling for work I get a work truck. So I just have to do some road trips to get mileage up. I might only put 200 miles a month on my current driver these days.

If I can work out how to graft a pair of roof racks onto it (maybe one on the roof and another on the yuuge wing) then i would definitely. At the moment my MX6 is more practical than my mums SUV because I have roof racks.
